Winnetka Library Space & Safety Enhancements

Youth Department Closure (May 27–June 13):
The Youth Services Department will be temporarily closed while we replace the flooring and relocate the service desk.
A temporary play area with limited toys and books will be available in the Lloyd Room. For full library services—including events, a larger play area, and full collection access—we encourage you to visit our Northfield location.

Our Mission

Inspiring Discovery, Nurturing Curiosity, Strengthening Community.

Our Vision

WNPLD is a dynamic hub that enriches life for the community by encouraging learning, creativity, and connection.

Guiding Principles

WNPLD uses the uses the Illinois Library Association’s Serving Our Public 4.0: Standards for Libraries as a guide for providing services to the communities of Winnetka and Northfield.

Our History

In 1884, the Winnetka Public Library was established to serve the intellectual, cultural, and recreational needs of the community. The library converted from a village department to a separate governmental unit in 1974 in order to include Northfield in its tax supported service area. While Kenilworth is not part of the Library District, its residents have been served through a contractual agreement since 1984.

Strategic Plan

As part of our commitment to being responsive to our community, we have embarked on a Strategic Plan that will guide our library district. The plan contains valuable information about our community and allows us to focus our efforts, time, and resources in ways that add value to the patrons we serve.
